Two Camp Pendleton Marines Killed in Car Accident near Cocklerburr Road

OCEANSIDE, CA (May 6, 2024)Jacob Johnson and Eduardo Zambrano died Thursday night in a Kenworth truck collision on southbound Interstate 5.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:00 p.m., near Cocklerburr Road.

Following the preliminary inquiry, the driver of a silver Hyundai Genesis swerved off the road and collided with a parked Kenworth tractor-trailer. Emergency responders pronounced the two individuals in the Hyundai vehicle deceased at the site.

The medical examiner’s office identified the deceased as 21-year-old Jacob Johnson and 19-year-old Eduardo Hernandez Zambrano. Records indicate both individuals were affiliated with the 1st Marine Logistics Group at Pendleton.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the potential involvement of drugs or alcohol in the incident. Additional information will be provided upon availability.
