Goldenvoice Reportedly Taking Over Music Box

Those saddened by the recent closing of the Music Box have reason to be cautiously hopeful: Goldenvoice reportedly has taken over the legendary Hollywood venue.

A concert industry veteran knowledgeable about the situation who wishes to remain anonymous tells us that Goldenvoice has signed a 12-month lease for the business, and plans to take over the venue's liquor license.

Goldenvoice had no comment.

Early last month fans were shocked by the Music Box's sudden shuttering; a sign reading "Closed for Inventory" was hung on the door, and the sound and lighting systems and bar were carried from the building. Apparently, two of the venue's three owners sold their stakes early last year after The Pee-Wee Herman Show was moved from the Music Box to Club Nokia. When new owners came on board, the landlord wasn't made aware, and months of friction between the two parties led to the eviction.

Goldenvoice called the closure "short-term" and scrambled to re-book previously scheduled shows from artists including Angels and Airwaves (which moved to Avalon) and Dr. Dog, which was held at the Orpheum. Rumors of Goldenvoice taking over swirled.
