Welcome to our new column, Ask a Teen Raver! Kerah Rose is a 19-year-old college student from Riverside who plays basketball and plans to study marine biology.

In her spare time she's an EDM aficionado who hits raves like nobody's business, often with her friend Ciara and clad in little more than electrical tape.

In this new column, which will run occasionally, Kerah will discuss the scene, the music, her outfits, and anything else on her mind. Please send questions to teenraver@laweekly.com.

Dear Teen Raver: West Coast Sound recently wrote about a DJ who got death threats for playing dubstep. Why do dubheads hate trance and tranceheads hate dubstep? -Ashley Naomi

Dear Ashley: I listened to DJ Fei-Fei's set from Beyond Wonderland, and this whole controversy is really stupid to me. Her set was fucking amazing! I'm upset I missed it, especially the part when she dropped some dirty ass dubstep and I wasn't there to witness it live.

I don't understand why trance fans were being so rude. I thought we were all suppose to be PLUR. [Editor's note: This means "Peace Love Unity Respect." Ravers say it a lot. We didn't know either.]

Maybe you don't like every kind of music, but that doesn't give you the right to disrespect others. We can all have our own opinions, but why be hurtful toward an artist?

But back to tranceheads hating dubheads. Actually, I don't think that's all the way true. I know a lot of die hard trance fans that don't hate on dubstep or talk shit about it.

Sure, they might not like dubstep and wouldn't listen to it, but they don't bring dubstep fans down. Same goes for the dubheads.

Personally I'm a big dubstep fan. I call myself a bass bunny because I truly love all types of dubstep, and I never hate on any other kinds of EDM. I think anyone who loves EDM as much as I do should stay PLUR.

Dear Teen Raver: Doesn't the electrical tape fall off your boobs once you start dancing? How do you keep it on there? -Concerned Citizen

All of you guys are bitching about how PLUR is gone but yet you have the audacity to bash and bad mouth a girl you don't even know and her music tastes.  A bit hypocritical, right?Judgmental, yeah?  Isn't that going against PLUR in its entirety?  You're not going to accomplish anything by insulting a random girl just because you don't think she's a legit part of this whole "culture."  The point is to welcome others, and allow them to embrace this lifestyle too, in whatever way they choose!  Yes, EDM is more mainstream now than it ever has been, but you either get over it and accept the changes or move on.  Don't go to these raves.. or music festivals.. or whatever you want to call them if you're just going to bitch about how it's not what it used to be. Times are a changin, people.  More and more people are getting involved in this genre of music and this lifestyle, whether us vets like it or not.  Personally, I feel that if you're nice and courteous to people at these events, then they'll return the same gestures. If you show up with a bad attitude, and act better than everyone else, then of course you're not going to have a fantastic time.  If this girl wants to go to a festival wearing pasties and underwear, let her.  Who are you to judge? Just relax, dance your ass off and listen to the music... that's why you're there, right?

PLUR isn't something you say, it is something you do. Its a lifestyle and sort of, in a way, a set of rules to live by. This new generation of ravers just hopped onto a bandwagon, and have no idea  or respect for the culture that surrounds the scene. They are the reason the edm scene will rise and sink

I don't understand all the complaints.  Anything that gets 16 year old girls to get basically naked in public and pose for pics is a GOOD thing, right???

this is a disgusting misrepresentation of ravers. i wear clothes when i go to parties. my friends wear clothes. we're not all on drugs. "electrical tape falling off [our] boobs" isnt a problem with responsible party goers.

this does nothing but make us look bad.

plur is dead and this is why :l

"Ask a teenage raver!" You mean ask a newb who probably doesn't even know that techno is a style, not an umbrella term. Go back to your favorite club and wait in like for your fucking AVICII show, dubslut. :p

This is fucking retarded. Trance heads and dubsteppers can both eat my techno shit.

OH and another thing little miss "raver", the reason us TRANCEheads were angry with Fei Fei for playing dubstep was because she was supposed to be playing TRANCE at the A STATE OF TRANCE stage. That stage wasn't called a state of dubstep. Dumbass.

This has to be the biggest fucking joke. You don't know shit about raves. You go to EVENTS, not raves. And why the fuck would we need to ask a "teen raver" anything? It doesn't take a fuckin genius to go to a music festival and listen to music for 9 hours straight. I will bet that this girl started going to events in 2010 and jumped on the bandwagon like everyone else did. I cannot wait until this fucking fad dies down so the rest of us can go back to listening to our music at events without being shoved around by people who are trying to get to the front of a stage to see an artist that they've never fucking heard of. Fucking pollies. Go take your pasties and your "mollys", as Madonna put it, and go roll ballsack in your own fucking house. It's people like YOU who are ruining EDM.

horrible piece of "journalism" as its been said before if you really want a glimpse into the true meaning of PLUR (which has lost its true meaning these days) or have an insight into the whole EDM / Rave community as a whole then have someone who see this not as a cool trend but as a lifestyle head this column  We are educated individuals who have seen this music and community evolve in culture & like the "hippie" movement in the 60s we were not understood at first but we knew we had a beautiful connection with one another & the music/lifestyle we loved.  Now that the rest of pop culture has finally come around to EDM the whole community as a whole is changing once again.  Many long time ravers argue that this change is for the worse but only time will tell.  I feel that if "true ravers" do not criticize these noob ravers so much but rather embrace them and set the example then we have the power to shape our community for the future.

Ohh I get it, early April Fool's joke. Very funny :D

But in all seriousness, she's 19. What could she possibly know about the rave scene? Or, what's left of it. There's plenty of veteran ravers, REAL RAVERS. That were involved in the 90s, early 00's rave movement. Why not hire one of them? I'm pretty sure they can offer much more information other than keeping tape on your breasts.

THANK YOU! Couldn't have said it better myself. As somebody who has raved for over 10 years I think I could and would dispense better information than this retard. I hope to Christ this is a troll piece...

What the fuck are you doing?! You're an embarrassment to all real ravers out there. This column is a joke. As if the EDM scene doesn't get a bad reputation as is, you only encourage it. To you readers who actually are curious about the rave scene, I'm a young lady the same age as this chick and I go to events with CLOTHES ON such as shorts and a tank top, so I still don't over heat. There's no reason to put tape or pasties around your nipples, it only sends out one message. I don't think its particularly attractive (or healthy) to jump around to the high bpm with your boobs flopping about. No self-respecting raver or EDM appreciator is going to take this stereotypical and upsetting column seriously.

Wearing electrical tape is the best way to get people to notice how easy you are and have your sloppy holes rammed all night long.

FuckRaveWhores
FuckRaveWhores

It's girls like you displaying all their goods for all the world to see, that are part of the reason why I am retired from the rave scene. I've been a part of that scene, longer than you have been alive, and you call yourself an aficionado? PLEASE! back in the day, girls would NEVER even think of walking around with tape over their nipples. And now they walk around in underwear, sometimes barely even that. Between crappy over payed and over hyped talent-less "artists" pretending to rock the crowd with serato, shitty music like dubstep, and attention whores such as yourself parading around half naked, the rave culture that I knew and loved is basically for all intents and purposes dead. Do yourself a favor, put some clothes on and stick with marine biology.

Annoyed raver

I would personally like to thank her for completely mis-representing the rave scene. ravers don't wear tape on their nipples... strippers do. Its actually sad how little respect her and her friend have for themselves to walk around a place basically naked. for anyone who doesn't know much about the scene. please don't accept this girl as a representation of it in any way. educate you'r selves please http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

This whole Trance versus Dubstep thing is ridiculous for one reason: It was a Trance evening with Armin van Buuren. The vibe that Trance puts out is destroyed when you toss Dubstep at it. It straight-up ruined the continuity of the evening. It has nothing to do with the genre, but how the genre was used to disrupt the vibe and feeling that the evening of Trance put the listeners in.

Appreciating all genres as a DJ myself, I can see why both sides are upset; but it's still silly. You'd never have a Dubstep evening (and I mean a DUBSTEP evening) broken up with a Trance set in the middle, and not receive a single complaint. Trust me. The bass-heads there for Dubstep would cry 'til no tomorrow, just as the Trancers did with this incident.

Get over it. And DJ's, please use your head when it comes to your set, genre(s) and the event you're attending. The vibe is just as important as your "amazing set".

Also your article is insulting to the rave community in my opinion, instead of enlightening those that have never even attended a rave who might be considering it and randomly come across your article you talk about "wearing pasties on your breast" like really? Yes readers raves are all about death threats and wearing pasties on your breast. Wow no, please please please allow someone else who is well informed about raves and has EXPERIENCE in this scene to write about it. I'm sorry Kerah but you have no clue what you are talking about OBVIOUSLY and quite frankly you should stop with this shit while you're ahead. Please.

Sincerely,A concerned reader/raver4 years experience and still goingCheers

To say that PLURR is dead I personally believe is an exaggeration. I guess you can say it's based on perception. I like to think I practice 'PLURRification' on a daily basis. I keep peace with friends, loved ones, colleagues, my students in any way I can. I love and I love dearly because without love we are dead. Unite, we must, in order to put this movement forward. Respect, not everyone is going to agree with you're ideals, but we need it to keep the peace. We can all invision a tree, but my tree will never look like your's. Responsibility, it is everyone's responsibilty to model behavior that we find desirable in each other. Of course PLURR is dead if you believe it is because you're probably not practicing it yourself. Call me an idealist, but when I've attended these music festivals I've met many who have given me the uttermost kindness and built lasting friendships, that is why I partake in this lifestyle. I understand why many are upset with this 'teen raver,' but honestly your hate mongering is not going to stop the superficiality of this article. If anything you're adding to it. Let's just live and love happily and hopefully the rest will follow our lead.

With a little bit of effort LA Weekly could have found a raver that had paid their dues, knew what the hell they were talking about and would take this opportunity to educate the masses about a very misunderstood sub-culture.  Instead they got someone who will be out of the scene in a year leaving nothing but bad information, acronyms they don't understand and great tips for keeping pasties on.  Well done.

The only reason why the Trance people were so upset at Fei Fei, was because she played Dubstep in the ASOT stage, a state of TRANCE. Im sure many of them do not dislike Dubstep, it was just a little more than disappointing to hear what she played, when so many were expecting an awesome opening for the 550 ep. PLUR...yeah Im not sure if thats around anymore. Its more like People Look Ugly Rolling, and Im sure thats the only reason you go to EVENTS, to roll your ass off and show it.
