DJ Gets Death Threats for Playing Dubstep

shes probably not a very socially acceptable person just like any other person ive met who calls themself a dj has never made there own songs nor are they modest and they suck at doing what they do the only reason they get hired is because the way they perform on stage jumping up and down whats the difference between her and rebecca black, whose pretty much read lyrics from a page some white jewish kid wrote? probably nothing..I bet rebecca black has had death threats this chick just cant handle the social environment

I hate how articles like this try to make their subject matter seem more intelligent than they actually are by throwing in "has a masters from USC" as if getting a masters from anywhere takes much more than regular class attendance and the money to see the program through to graduation.

I really hope that the authorities of the corresponding countries identify those people and they get punished by the corresponding penal code. There should be no tolerance for threats and slander!

I wonder if anyone has listened to the set? It's hardly hardcore dubstep, she has incorporated the sound but its in a trance framework. Listen to the set then comment.

I'm in two minds here. AVB hired the girl, and he must have known she was a bit of a wildcard, if he didnt check her setlist prior to letting her on at a major event i'd be extremely surprised... If he didn't, more fool him. It was a rogue move on her behalf, and to be playing 'modern' dubstep (all energy, high pitch squeals and mid bass) as opposed to the 'original' dubstep (more relaxed, sub bass wobble sort of thing) was even more rogue. to chop a trance tempo to a half time tempo is controversial but hey, whatever! She perhaps isn't the best at reading a crowd though. Watch the entirety of that video... I've seen more movement in coma patients. 

Personally I wouldn't have done that at a prog trance event, but I'm not the one who's famous... then again I'm not the one with death threats :p AVB put her on for a reason, he probably knew the set list. If you're going to be pissed at anyone, be pissed at him. personally i just see it as a rogue move, not enough to wish death on someone, but enough that I'd probably never choose to listen to her DJ again. Death threats for music? Really? Sort your lives out you bunch of good for nothing hipster cunts.

Fei Fei always plays an all over the map set. She is known for playing across multiple styles. Insomniac knows this when they book her, Armin Knows this when they give him the opener lineup for approval. She played to the crowd. Also if a headliner doesnt want a certain type of music played they will have it stated in there rider. Porter Robinson has a "No Play" list that the openers must follow which has specific songs and specific styles of music listed as "Do Not Play". Shes opened for Tiesto before and been all over the map style wise. He didn't have a problem with it. The Radio kids just got pissed because they wanted all Armin Trance. You can't make everybody happy and she played to the crowd that was in front of her and they loved it. Death threats because you don't like her set? Pretty stupid. If you dont like it, change the channel.

People who say that playing dubstep early in the night at a trance show is "Bad"... okay, maybe it's DIFFERENT, but keep an open mind. As many commenters have pointed out, EDM is evolving and genres are blending like crazy, so for you to get elitist about any genre makes you look like a dinosaur.

If you don't like Fei Fei, don't listen to Fei Fei and stop hatin'. Jeez this article made me angry.

Some of you have right points and wrong points, in the end...THE BOTTOM LINE is that as a DJ you play to the crowd on that day, at that moment. None of you are Armin so you can't speak on his behalf like you knew what his thoughts were, and none of you are Fei-Fei so you can't tell a 10 year veteran that she was doing it wrong when she clearly stated that "people were into it". Yes you never kill a headliner but you genre and keyboard warriors and so called 'Dj's' need to realize that it comes down to reading the crowd and she did her thing. You genretize dubstep as that "shitty robots-having-sex, genre" when there are very melodic and mellow dub tunes. Don't think that she instantly played banger after banger, she's a vet she knows what she's doing up there, and who cares that it's a trance event...I don't think you trance lovers should get so butt-hurt like every genre that came after yours isn't 'real electronic music' and if you're at the show, just enjoy it. In the end Fei-Fei did her thing, she's a pro and if you didn't enjoy it because you're too busy defending your love for trance then sit at home and listen to your own playlists so you never get dissapointed.

DJ's that ride trends and try to be the NBT are going to fail eventually, they're  too busy looking in whats hot rather than playing for their passion, and that will show.  Primo isn't going to go play progressive house, and I doubt that Theo Parrish  is going to play happy hardcore, They dig what they play and play what they feel.  That is the reason for continued success.  Being an opener and pissing of the crowd is NAGL. An opener's job is to set the tone for the rest of the night,  keep the crowd there, read them,  get them moving, and then pass the headphones to the next one.  A lot of times, you can tell how good a DJ is based on their opening set; if it results in death threats, there might be some problems with the programming."Go easy on the fads, cause the poseurs always pose" Del The Funkee Homosapian

As if anyone is trying to justify death threats? You people keep bringing that up as if we need convincing. One or two "death threats" out of 30 million+ tuned in is not a story. Normal people in show business get threats every day. This is no story other then she played a set that was out of place. Even Armin was surprised. "you changed your style?" he asked.

Ok, so after listening to about half of this set, I must say that even if I tend to be more open minded when it comes to EDM (being a hobbiest DJ myself) dub step certainly was not right for this event. Plain and simple, this was an opening act for a trance event. For instance, I play tech house, but you better believe I would not play my usual set at this type of event, if I even believed that I could play it at all.

Being a Dj for 11 years, promoter for 10 years, and involved with artist management for 5 years, I would never book her again. She fucked up the format for the night.
