Charles Manson's New Record Is Not Good

Categories: Penal-Core

Let's all try to be really open-minded for a hot second.

Records Ad Nauseam, a niche record label run out of the Hollywood boutique Beauty is Pain, just put out a vinyl LP of never-before-released Charles Manson music. Recorded on tape in a room above the chapel at Vacaville Medical Facility in the 1980s, this iteration of Manson's music passed hands a few times before coming to Manuel Vasquez, the label's owner. Vasquez, 26, raised funds through a Kickstarter campaign (obviously) and is selling them at his boutique, online and through local record purveyors like Echo Park's Oragami Vinyl.

Vasquez is selling the record for $18 and may soon run out of the first 500 he's pressed. (His Kickstarter was budgeted for a run of 999 -- 666 upside down, get it?)

Paul T. Bradley
The Hippie Generation's least favorite houseguest, Manson is serving a life sentence at Corcoran State Prison for orchestrating the murders of actress Sharon Tate, hairstylist Jay Sebring, screenwriter Wojciech Frykowski and coffee heiress Abigail Folger in Tate's Benedict Canyon home, and participating in the Los Feliz murders of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca at the hands of his cult followers.

And this is where it gets hard to be open-minded. Not for Vasquez, though. He told the LA Times that he's pretty sure that Manson's innocent. Manson never actually killed anyone himself, right? And he took guitar lessons from deceased Beach Boy Dennis Wilson, to boot.

Ugh.

Yeah, so we'll stick with the Oxford definition of Manson -- the unrepentant psychopath, not Vasquez's -- the unfairly maligned cult guru. In that sense, Just Fucking Around is pretty shady. Thankfully, we were assured that none of the cash we shelled-out for the record goes anywhere near Manson. (Yes, we actually bought it.) High rolling backers over $100 got vials of Spahn Ranch's "sacred soil" in addition to the album.

But the record's cover has some crayon coloring and a drawing that Manson did with a fellow inmate. The vinyl is labeled with a rendition of Manson's steadfast forehead swastika.

Ugh.

What about the music? We write about music here. The music is what Vasquez calls "probably an acquired taste." Uh huh. This isn't the first Manson musical release; it's one of dozens, in fact. Even Gun's N' Roses and White Zombie have covered his older tunes -- some of it is actually passable folk.

I genuinely didn't understand the point of this article. We know Manson is an utter psychopath. We know his music is going to be terrible. I can't see any reason why this article needed to be written, aside from the website/writer wanting to be 'edgy' and 'quirky', mixed with a phoney sympathy for any of the victims and a 'but really, he is evil' wink to the readers. On top of all this MONEY WAS PAID for it! Shame on you.

It was recorded over a contraband cell phone (remember when he was busted twice for one in 2011?) and yeah, not at all produced. I think this release is the same as anyone else- including the media- capitalizing on his name and infamy.

His new one Trees, not this, sorry. This was recorded on a hand-made walkman device made into a recorder with ingenuity.

for one, manson is guilty!! he was the first one in the Labiancas house, even tying them up himself. he shot bernard crowe thinking he killed him, and that hapened before the famous 2 nights of murder. he knew all about it, and could have stopped it, but didnt. so he"s guilty as hell. that being said, im a huge fan of the case, and murder stories. is Johhny Depp a loser because he buys art made from murderers? i dont think so. me personally, im not big on big fat guys who killed young boys and buryed them in his basement. but a story about sex, drugs, music, L.A. (my hometown), the hippie scene, movie stars and more, that gets my attention bigtime! for me, i already know without hearing the album that its gonna suck. Maybe a cool song or two but usually the quality is so bad, that alone makes it suck to me. but still fun to listen to. probly laugh at it more then anything. but like i said, im a big fan of the case, and would buy it. suposedly either Depp or Rob Zombie have one of Charlie's ceremonial vests. Wish i had it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ronb641 Actually, Tex has admitted that he tied up the LaBiancas. Manson tying them up was the prosecution's theory based on the words of someone who wasn't in the house- Linda Kasabian. Doesn't make Manson innocent, but the prosecution's case wasn't 100% correct. Manson shot Bernard, yes, but even Bernard didn't press charges. Manson shot him over Tex's crap, and I am sure you know why; drugs and Bernard threatening to harm "Luella". Manson is certainly guilty for that too... Manson admits that completely, as well.

Vasquez is an asshole for giving this loser a platform. There is nothing to be redeemed from this POS. But at least everyone knows Vasquez is also a slimy POS too now.

If you buy this album you are a loser.
