Why You Shouldn't Hate Indie Rock

"Most record companies that you think are run by cool young people are owned by billionaires that have done awful things"

Tao: By "most," he or she means "one" (Mexican Summer).

"The main reason touring has allegedly replaced record sales is because the companies that stock the bars in America want more MONEY"

Tao: Yes, because alcohol companies invented the internet, file sharing and the archaic business practices of most major labels.

If bars and alcohol companies profit from the rise of touring profits, so be it. As long as bands get money, fans get to see shows and have drinks, and everyone else is happy, then what's the difference? If you really want to complain about the touring industry, how about the people who put extra fees on tickets that we all hate?

I feel the same about "urban music" which is code for my grandmothers music. Indy music---whats that? All music is bullshit. But the worst music is anything on Billboard or MTV pop charts.

This twitter user is yearning for a fresh infusion of the political and/or real punk esthetic to reinvigorate 'indie rock'. No one expects the next Curtis Mayfield to be a product of a major OR independant label these days. With the undeniable saturation of commercialism into all facets of today's america, coupled with the vast majority of popular music exhibiting precisely zero historical relevance it is completely understandable for @hateindierock to want to push some buttons and start a real conversation.

Refuting a few outlandish tweets does not address this underlying frustration.

Hope you enjoy the Foster the People xmas album.
