Sorry, But Kanye Is the GOAT

Categories: Hip-Hop

9) Kanye's an asshole
So was Picasso. So was Ty Cobb. So is Jay-Z for that matter. (That was a not nice thing he said at the Grammys about The-Dream's hat.) It's something of a given that anyone driven to celebrity is going to be arrogant and confused. But it's one thing to be an asshole and it's another to have a sense of self-awareness, which believe it or not Kanye possesses. After Lil Wayne drew a more-enthusiastic crowd response at Summer Jam 2008 (despite performing "Pussy Monster" on guitar), Kanye acknowledged that he'd been one-upped, and vowed to come back with something bigger and better. And he did. Even if Watch the Throne the album wasn't too special, Watch the Throne the tour was pretty unstoppable.

Oh, and if anyone is still upset that he interrupted Taylor Swift, or about the George W. Bush hates black people thing, or if anyone doubts his love for Kim Kardashian and their baby -- you're an asshole yourself.

The Ten Best L.A. Albums of 2012

10) Nas/Rakim/Immortal Technique is the GOAT
It's nice to have a lane, and it's even nicer to drive faster and straighter in your lane than anyone else. But being the GOAT is not about doing one thing really, really well. It's about being the best artist, it's about confronting one's fears and weaknesses, expanding one's sound, and reinventing oneself time and time again. It's the Kanye West playbook, and we are all lucky to be around while he's in his prime.

Your article is worthless!!!!  How dare you sit up here and say that Kanye is Better than JayZ or Em.....look man i understand you got the gift to write and are a big kanye fan.... yeah yeah..you probably own all his albums and what not... but I got a newsflash for you kid... take if from a cat thats been in this shit since elementary....  JayZ first 4-5 albums or Eminems first 3 albums alone wipe out 99.9 of the competition when it comes to GOATs talks...so either you are ultimately dick riding Kanye or you are just ultimately riding Kanye's Dick... Either Or, not both.. So pick one.

This is  a DUMB ass post....your sitting here trying to incorporate all these other aspects of Kanyes talent to justify why he is the GOAT... FOH!

Lets Just Keep it basic for your elementary ass.....

DOpe Hip Hop Artist  = Dope Rhymes over Dope Beats (regardless of who makes them)

Therefore..... Kanye is not even the Top Ten.. maybe when its all said and done maybe....

KANYE is not FUCKIN with JAY Z, EMINEM, or NAS, TUPAC or BIG...... you know how i know so??...because Kanye himself would say he's not.. thats why.... This is a dumb ass article!

Kanye has never battled anyone nor even dissed anybody in hip hop or been challeged in hip hop...FOH! with this nonsense article..

Kanyes not even a top ten rapper... yeah he has made impact musically with his production and songs... but thats where it ends...

He did say hip hop artist so that qualifies it alot

If you say greatest rapper its no contest Rakim - the real debate would be who is the second best rapper? Probably Nas

Why don't we sum up the past week for LA Weekly- * Justin Bieber is a talented musician * Superficial teenage girls have the best taste in music * Kanye West is the greatest rapper of all time * "How did Odd Future get the idea of putting cats on shirts?" * Jessica Alba was in Santa Monica today WORLD CLASS JOURNALISM, GUYS. SO RAW.

Ight but what about Eminem, where's your argument against him, the combination of Em and Dre took rap to levels both commercially and artistically that will never be reached ever again, not even by Mr. West

@FuckABlogger Eminem would be a contender if we were talking about lyrics or rappers. But we are talking about "greatest hip-hop artist" here. Eminem and Dre, without a doubt took hip-hop culture to new levels, but in pales in comparison to the amount of influence Kanye has had internationally and in pop culture.

Also consider Eminem's albums - I don't think any of them measure up to the consistency that Kanye has.

Kanye's consistency...on what level?  dude what the fuck are you talking about.....The only thing consistent abotu Kanye west is ability to make ridiculous comments and do overboard things to get the medias attention....  College Dropout was good.. but lets be honest its not fuckin with Em's Slim Shady LP, MM, or Eminem show..or recovery.....lets be clear...Kanye makes great music...But his music doesnt stand the test of time.... Can recall the last time someone said "Damn that Kanye album really made a dent in the game"   Kanyes good..But Eminem is Great....Kanyes dope...but JayZ is Phenomoenal

@FuckABlogger Em is pretty much the only person I think this is hard to argue against. For me, it is about how many songs made by each artist that I absolutely hate. Maybe that's not completely fair, but I can barely listen to Relapse, while Kanye is pretty consistent in releasing songs that I can at least listen through without my ears starting to bleed.

What about 808s and Heartbreak...that was surely a fuck up...I dont know anybody that just plain out listen to that.....

Iam picking Eminem album over Kanyes anyday...I can listen to Relapse...Eminems worse album still kills 95% of the competition because his Bar is set so high..

Reading this article, or whatever it is, just made me sick. I read it twice, just to make sure I did not leave anything out. I don't hate Kanye, but I am pretty damn sure that he is not the greatest artist of all time. This opinion  of LA Weekly or of Mr. Westoff is garbage.

fred.zaw
fred.zaw

@guzman_andrew Maybe you should read it a third time. It claims he is the greatest hip-hop artist of all time. And also, maybe you'd like to shed some light on why you think this opinion is garbage, because it seems pretty well supported in the article.

I was vibing with this article until you said Jay's verse on Never Let Me Down was trash. He makes that song so much better. Hip hop at its finest.

Sometimes while reading LA Weekly I think, "Hey, I should try this taco shop when I'm in that area sometime." And sometimes I think "whoever wrote this article doesn't deserve to live on this planet."

Good thing you said "sorry" at the beginning, you shortsighted clown. I wont even dignify this article with a full response - but pay homage to the PIONEERS... Pac alive = kanye without a job.

I'm not convinced Kanye tops Tupac's POSTHUMOUS work, much less the genius that was released when he was alive. LA Weekly should revoke this blogger's right to an opinion :P

Not sure who's the bigger douche, Kanye West or all these white folks professing their love for "'Real Hip Hop, you know? KRS One, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, De La Soul, Wu Tang, you know, The Old School.'" The butthurt is strong with this thread.

Hahaha this is why I hate the LA weekly. Their writers suck, & it's a bunch of ill informed white people acting like they can comment on this shit. Of course you chose Kanye.

A lot of you missed the point. The author isn't arguing that Kanye is the best lyricist, rapper, etc., but rather, he's the best artist since he's succeeded in various aspects that constitute the definition of an artist: changing the game, writing beats, artistic experimentation and originality. Kanye has been successful in all aspects, whereas other artists, are only successful in one aspect. (Btw my favorite lyricist is Big L & Talib Kweli and beat maker, hands down, is dj premier.)
