Lina's Party Pick of the Week
Designer Michael Schmidt, door diva Cin Ishii and Glitter Death store owner Rio Warner at In The Flesh
7000 Hollywood Blvd., Hlywd., Tuesdays
Remember when Teddy's in the Roosevelt Hotel was notorious for its tough door? Hostess Amanda Demme was both celebrated and vilified for her in-crowd-only gatherings, making entrance to the small club not only coveted but covered in media beyond the local rags. We've been to many a party at the hotel and at Teddy's, but even we were denied once! It wasn't pretty, but we licked our wounds at the Frolic Room until they were nice and numb. All good, and we got in the next time we tried. Early.
Unlike other Hollywood Boulevard hot spots, Teddy's didn't roll over -- or change over -- when Demme exited. Another hot night, Teddy's Fridays (with DJ Myles Hendrick) took a break but recently came back hipper and hotter than ever. Even more recently, In the Flesh, from Donovan Leitch (actor, frontman for all-star jam band Camp Freddy and son of the singer Donovan) and Bryan Rabin (known for the legendary '90s party Club Cherry) brought out a fabulous mix not seen since the Demme days. Hip kids, industry folk, glam rock band boys, starlets, seasoned fashionistas, queens, punks ... you get the idea.
The soundtrack for this one is cool rock & roll, post-punk and groovin,' grindin' dance music of all kinds, a mix not heard too often on the hip-hop/pop/EDM-centric boulevard decks ... which makes In the Flesh very, very fresh.
