No meat on his watch hahahaha

The Staples Center will be meatless for Morrissey's show tomorrow, says Morrissey. Um, well, not exactly, says the Staples Center. Um, yeah, counters Morrissey.

His declaration that the place will be meat-free "was not reviewed by anyone in the building," adds Cara Vanderhook, flack for the Staples Center. She notes that, nonetheless, the dressing room and backstage catering for the show will not have meat, vegan items will be for sale to those attending, and McDonalds outlets within Staples Center will be closed on the evening in question (though she declines to say at whose behest).

However Michael Roth, another PR rep for the arena, seems to imply that the situation may be evolving a bit. They "will likely provide more details on Friday," he writes in an email. Tantalizing!

Yesterday, the American Federation of Musicians staged a protest aimed at TV shows with live bands, here and in New York. In the Los Angeles area they picketed outside of The Tonight Show, Dancing With the Stars and Jimmy Kimmel Live. The 116 year old organization claims its performers haven't been granted a raise in seven years, despite renewed pressure on networks.

Fanning out from Burbank to Hollywood, about 30 union musicians from their Local 47 chapter handed out leaflets to line-bound prospective audience members in blistering heat.

Earlier this week EDM DJ and producer Kaskade posted a photo on Facebook from the Miami stop of his recent tour. In it, a pretty blonde pays homage to the show -- called Freaks of Nature -- showing off a detailed body paint job. It's provacative, yes, but not much different than those Sports Illustrated swimsuit body paint pictures you can find at any drug store. (Full photo below.)

"This girl just 1 up'd EVERYONE!!!" Kaskade wrote in the caption. It drew some 13,000 likes. Quickly, however, he had some bad news: Facebook removed the photo.

Activists and rockers descended upon a gallery in Chinatown last night (which doubled as a human hot box) to kick off a weekend protesting a planned Walmart in the neighborhood. The company irked community activists by sneaking in permit applications for their store just hours before an L.A. City Council ordinance banning them from the neighborhood.

Behind a headlining concert by local post-post-punkers No Age was a veritable rainbow coalition of performance and speech -- including noise duo Tearist, vocal ensemble LA Fog and some Walmart employees flown in from Minnesota to rail against their bosses.
