Last Sunday, the carefully realistic timeline of cult TV show Mad Men reached that fateful date, November 22nd, 1963 (SPOILER ALERT: JFK gets shot, dies!).

...and they don't feel fine

Fans of the show who are also music nuts have learned to wait for the closing titles, where Matt Wiener and his team usually deploy an interesting period track--often obscure--that serves as counterpoint or commentary to the week's episode.

Their choice for this momentous week for the characters and the nation did not disappoint: Skeeter Davis' "The End of the World," a gem of a rendition that has often been covered but never surpassed (even British warbler-savant and Internet meme Susan Boyle has reportedly done a version for her imminent album).

Here's a super weird, very rare early appearance by the sublime Ms. Davis at the now forgotten Star Route TV show:
